This course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to develop an asthma risk assessment and emergency management plan and provide asthma related first aid interventions in the workplace. It also covers the skills and knowledge to recognise, treat and mitigate the risks of anaphylaxis. Topics Include: • Triggers, signs and symptoms of mild to moderate allergic reactions and anaphylaxis • Background knowledge of the triggers, signs and symptoms of asthma • Risk minimisation and management strategies for asthma emergencies • Guidelines of asthma peak bodies • Emergency treatment for an asthma episode • Communicating details to emergency services • Workplace incident recording and reporting • Evaluating responses to asthma and anaphylaxis emergencies • Emergency response to anaphylaxis, including ASCIA action plans • Use of adrenaline autoinjector devices • Development of individual anaphylaxis management plans • Risk assessment for allergies • Implementation of strategies to minimise allergic reaction risk • Development of communication plans to raise awareness
